Remote Printing
Printing from a personal computer to an ACS laser printer
Problem Description: I want to print with ACS printers using my laptop/mobile computer.
-
This Affects:
- Any student with a laptop and ACS laser printing account.
Solution:
We have recently introduced a new service to
support remote printing. It will authorize
the computer
you're currently using (wired or wireless)
to print to a specified ACS printer.
You must have an
ACS
Printing Account to use this service.
Details:
Involves connecting to Remote Printing Authorization web page where you will enter your ACS account's username and password, and choose a printer from a pull-down menu's list of ACS printers.
Once you sign-in to the service, any print jobs sent from your computer to ACS printers will be charged to the specified real-money print account. To sign off, select "Logout" from the status window. If you close the status window without signing off, printing will continue to be charged to the your account for up to five minutes.
This service is still being developed, and is subject to change at any time. Please direct all questions, concerns, and support inquiries to acs-consult@ucsd.edu.
- Windows XP or Vista setup: you may download and run the
ACS Remote Print Installer,
which performs all steps necessary
to use ACS Remote Printing. To install,
download the ZIP file to your desktop, open
(double-click) the ZIP folder, and
double-click on "acs-remote-printing.msi".
- For expert Windows XP or Vista users who prefer more control over the installation, we have provided alternate instructions which describe manual setup of ACS Remote Printing on your Windows XP computer.
- Instructions for Mac OS X.
- To configure Remote Printing on other operating systems(Linux, BSD), you must create a printer (or print queue) on your local computer using the PPD/PostScript driver corresponding to the model printer you wish to use. (PPD files may be downloaded from the Windows XP instructions page above.) Specify an "LPR" or "LPD" device type, provide a device/server name of "print.ucsd.edu", and a queue name of "relay".
Discussion:
This service has been extended to any system in the ucsd.edu domain.
