ACS Services Available for Faculty
Also see the Faculty Guide to Academic Information Technology.
Available services include:
- Course Web Sites and Tools: The Instructional Web Development Center (IWDC) provides a variety of services related to creating and hosting course web sites.
- Computer Labs and Servers: See Instructional facilities. To make lab reservations contact the ACS Accounts Office.
- Software: See existing Instructional software on ACS systems. Make requests for new software through your department's annual Instructional Computing Plan (ICP).
- Accounts for instructors and TAs:
The
ACS Accounts Office staff will be happy to set up accounts in advance
so instructors and TAs can try out software and develop assignments before the quarter begins.
Arrangements can be made to keep the instructor's account and files online from year to year if the instructor continues to teach the same course.
- Accounts and resources for students:
All undergraduate students and most graduate students receive basic
computing services from ACS. Students receive additional access to
systems and resources (disk space, CPU time, etc) if they are
enrolled in a course for which the instructor has
arranged ACS support.
ACS prepares accounts and lab access codes for instructors to distribute to students. Before the first day of class, an account is assigned to each pre-enrolled student. On request, individualized account slips are printed, as well as a roster and set of special account "add slips" to be filled in and returned to ACS by students who add the class. The course instructor or TA can pick up the account slips, roster, and lab access codes after 12:00 noon on the first day of classes. Add slips are needed for auditors, waitlisted and concurrent (Extension) enrollment students.
Important: please do not send students who add the class to ACS to get an account without one of the add slips, we will have to refer them back to you. If you run out of slips, more can be printed; contact the Accounts Office.
We also provide "Step1 Guides" for the students that contain basic instructions for logging in and using ACS labs.
- Email lists to communicate with students:
- Email features in WebCT available through the Instructional Web Development Center
- Email features in TritonLink
- Listserv maillists to which students may self-subscribe.
- Assistance for Instructors Using ACS Facilities: ACS Accounts Office Staff are available to assist instructors and TAs with the use of ACS facilities, including using Unix systems and setting up Turnin for students' homework assignments.
To make arrangements to use ACS facilities, please complete a Cinfo request.
